🇯🇵Japan
Japan rewards nomads who value reliability over rock-bottom prices: trains run to the second, convenience stores stock surprisingly good meals, and crime is rare. English is patchy outside tourist zones and bureaucracy runs on cash, fax, and hanko stamps. A weak yen has made 2025-2026 cheaper for dollar earners, though Tokyo rents and the new visa's income bar still keep entry costs high.

The Digital Nomad Visa
Japan launched a Digital Nomad Visa in March 2024: six months, non-renewable, with no path to residency and an income requirement around USD 68,000 per year. You must hold private health insurance and come from an eligible country. Most stayers still use the 90-day visa-free entry instead.
